The Big 12 conference has been the best in college football for a while now, and this year is no different. With some of the top teams in the country, such as Oklahoma and Texas, it’s hard to imagine any other conference taking home the hardware.

Best bets from the Big 12
Over 7.5 wins for TCU Horned Frogs (-115)
Fortenbaugh: For good reason, the Big 12’s 2021 season has centered on Oklahoma and Iowa State, but don’t overlook Gary Patterson’s Horned Frogs, who return 18 players, including dual-threat quarterback Max Duggan. Duggan’s completion rate increased from a shaky 53% in 2019 to a solid 61 percent last year, and there are lots of reasons to think he’ll make another leap this year. In reality, starting 4-1 (against. Duquesne, vs. California, vs. SMU after a bye week, vs. Texas, at Texas Tech) is quite feasible, and that’s before you consider that home matches versus Baylor and Kansas provide layup victories. Don’t be shocked if TCU makes it to the Big 12 title games if Iowa State falters.
TCU (+2000) to win the conference

Connelly: TCU, like Baylor, could have a top-20 defense on its hands. And late last season, we saw some supremely encouraging glimpses from a pair of star freshmen — running back Zach Evans (29 carries for 264 yards in his last three games) and receiver Quentin Johnston (eight catches for 247 yards in his last two games) — that led us to believe that, while this offense won’t be suddenly elite, it could be a lot better than it has been. Playing at both OU and Iowa State isn’t ideal for a Big 12 championship run, but the Horned Frogs have won plenty of big road games in the past, and I’ll take +2000 odds on a Gary Patterson club any day.
Baylor Bears (+105) over 5.5 wins

Connelly: Baylor was in overtime in the Big 12 Championship only one season ago, vying for a place in the College Football Playoff. Last season’s season was derailed by a coaching change and three early one-score defeats, but second-year head coach Dave Aranda has a top-20 defense on his hands, not to mention (a) an offense that can’t be much worse, and (b) a gimme-filled schedule. The Bears face three teams ranked 118th or worse in SP+, so they should only need to go 3-6 in the next nine games to hit the Over. They have a 66 percent probability of succeeding with SP+.
Under 1.5 wins for the Kansas Jayhawks (-170)

Fulghum: Throughout the season, Kansas will only be favored in one game (Week 1 vs. South Dakota). Last year’s squad went 0-8 in conference games, averaging 32.3 points per game. Les Miles was abruptly removed from the program, and Lance Leipold, despite a solid résumé, finds himself in an uncomfortable position. It’s not easy to win football games at Kansas, and Leipold is beginning the season behind the eight ball… with a poor squad.
