Doctor Who Season 9 is the upcoming ninth season of the British science fiction television programme Doctor Who. The season is set to begin broadcasting in Autumn 2016, and will consist of twelve episodes. Peter Capaldi will return as the Twelfth Doctor, and will be joined by new companion Bill Potts, played by Pearl Mackie. In January 2016, it was announced that filming for the season had begun.
The first trailer for the season was released on 14 May 2016, during the Doctor Who Proms. The trailer showed the return of the Daleks and Missy, as well as Bill’s first meeting with the Doctor.
The ninth season will be showrunner Steven Moffat’s last as executive producer and head writer, as he is set to step down after the tenth season. Chris Chibnall will take over as showrunner from the eleventh season.
