An unfortunate chore that many researchers and marketers have to live with is writing articles.

The first generation of Article Writing Software

Checkout Instant Article Wizard pro for more information

For several years now, Instant Article Wizard Pro has saved me time and effort with its automated research functionality.

You may be wondering what prompted me to consider an alternative to Instant Article Wizard Pro, like Answer Analyst given how good the Instant Article Wizard Pro software is

The next generation of software are All In One (Research, Analysis & Article Writing Software)

So at this point you may wonder, what is so special about Answer Analyst?

Let’s cover the similarities first: both Instant Article Wizard Pro and Answer Analyst are capable of grabbing the information “from across the web” about any keywords and create coherent and grammatically correct paragraphs for any articles on any subject.

Both software excel at completing research in seconds, whilst the same activity done manually would take days.

Industry Specific Search Strategies: Under the Hood (Part 3)

March 11th, 2010 by News World Report

Richard Baxter from SEOGadget – Travel SEO

How people search for flights in the UK

There are 6 main categories of keywords in terms of flights:

- generic (flights, cheap flights)

- destination (eg “flights to new york”)

- routes – v important (eg “flights from london to new york”) look at all the different variations eg “london to paris” is different to “paris to london”. Less competitive route based keywords are of course easier to target, mainly because not many people optimise for them.

- Brand (”easyjet flights”)

- Departure (eg “flights  from manchester”)

Take your keyword lists and put all variations into Google Keyword tool – over a large scale of iterations you end up with a huge target long tail graph.

Then you can play around with new longtail variations of different types of keywords eg “cheap easyjet flights from Gatwick to Malaga”

How this translates into site architecture

You can map each ‘type’ of keyword against different levels of your sitemap architecture – eg hompage -> generic,

Site indexation issues

The problem with mapping out this kind of country based architecture is that you end up siloing pagerank down through your main destinations but there are ‘neighbour’ countries/categories that dont have much juice. To get around this you could use crosslinking (nearby/similar/recently reviewed suggestions/most popular).  Also learn from bloggers – use tagging as a way to spread internal juice to pages that don’t traditionally get power.

Analysing competitiveness and competitor linkbuilding strategies

Richard pimped out Open Site Explorer to show how you can look at competitor backlinks. As a great example Kayak tools such as Top Pages on Domain are really useful for finding out about things they have had success with.

Phew! That was intense – years of experience at CheapFlights condensed into about 15 mins – crazy!

Make sure your Search Engine Optimisation is set up correctly. Any Web Design company worth their salt will advise you on the best methods

SEO Copywriting Secrets Few People Know

March 11th, 2010 by News World Report

Learning how to write copy for the search engines, or SEO copywriting, is learning how to write web content both for the reader and for the search functions of the search engines. ”Search engine copywriting” is another term for this writing method. So why should you use SEO copywriting? It’s to rank high for your chosen keywords and then convert the traffic by offering the visitors valuable content. This does not involve a complicated manner of deceiving the search engines, as numerous individuals believe. SEO copywriting is a way of creating a win-win situation; the art of creating quality content which provides the best value for the reader. Learn what linkdozer customers are saying about this SEO tool.

SEO copywriting or Search Engine Copywriting is something that not many people are aware of. And though many people do understand the importance of search engine optimization, they may not realize that a very high quality of writing is necessary to make content successful in search engine ratings. Yet still, this SEO copy-writing proves to be a central component employed by Internet marketeers around the globe to increase their online presence significantly. In totality, SEO copywriting is the exclusive process of composing professional content for a web site that poses a persuasive message and offers help in various ways. In this article, we will be talking about how you can use SEO copywriting to enhance your search engine rankings and drive more traffic.

There are some crucial points to consider in SEO copywriting, however, the overall process is not very complex. First off, when you’re writing the copy, you need to use keywords that are relevant to your market and trigger off a response from the search engines. What are the targeted keywords? The following are common keywords that should be selected for your copy: the name of the website for which you are writing copy, main buzz words that relate to your website’s topic and products sold on the website. When you include more keywords in the appropriate spots, your web site will acquire a better ranking through all the big search engine names (Google, Yahoo!, etc.). Weaving these keywords into the copy in an appealing way for the reader is the challenge in writing good SEO copywriting. Simply keeping a basic sheet of keywords will not get the job done. Rather, you have to make sure that the copy is interesting, pulls the reader and strong enough, so that it doesn’t look like spam in any way. In other words, it will not be as simple to identify quality SEO copywriting since it will show up like any other web content – only this time, it will have greater power.

Instead of software, employ the services of a SEO copywriter. You really want a pro writer to generate and originate fresh copy. A copywriting expert can conceive of content that’s attention-grabbing and informative. These writers have experience in just such tasks and can effectively produce copy for your site. Whether you want to write your own copy or get someone who can do it for you, SEO copywriting requires you to have search engine optimization knowledge, as it differs from regular writing. Your content may be of good quality, but if it is not enhanced for your website or product’s related keywords, it could become especially hard to bring in targeted users to your web page.

Foremost, if you are in the stages of fine-tuning your website for SEO, then you better be sure that certain keywords are placed in title, tags, and the description. Many web pages get high rankings without your keywords and phrases being in the domain name, although some marketers believe this is a vital location if you are to achieve high ranking. Keyword placement is the most important factor as it is the factor that will determine the positions search engines place your website in relation to other sites with the same or similar keywords. Just be careful that you don’t use too many keywords or you will make things far too difficult for yourself. A good rule to go by is a maximum of three primary keywords and usage of the keyword at 3-5%. Initial market research is a vital component of your marketing since getting the attention of search engines takes some work. It’s better to have your keywords ready before you start on your copy, as it helps in carving out the best content.

Another option would be to utilize your keywords within the side headings or subheadings. This keyword placement makes the site look more SEO friendly as well as helping the reader navigate more easily. Do not repeat the same keywords over and over in your articles; use synonyms, similies and related words instead to make the same point. By overusing a single keyword in your article, it could make it seem like a spam message. You can have a ratio of 100:1, which means, use one keyword for every 100 words of your content.

One crucial aspect that a lot of people disregard is proof reading your article. Once you’re done writing your content, you should always proof read it. While focusing on your content, spelling and grammar errors can easily be overlooked. A proof reader should also make sure that the content flows smoothly. Having error-ridden articles just gives out an unprofessional impression to the reader. Read more about Link Dozer on our internet marketing forum now.

The reason it is crucial to stay up to date with Search Engine Optimization is that it is a relatively new and still booming industry segment, often morphing and regularly updating. And so SEO copywriters must be flexible enough to adapt to the industry changes and create persuasive website copy that converts.

The technical elements of SEO along with closely focused page content must both be carefully planned and crafted in order to get good search engine ratings and good conversion, in other words, the best payoff for your marketing efforts. Ranking highly with any chosen topic will be achievable when you master the art of writing quality SEO copy that contains the right combination of keywords and phrases. So keep moving forward, and never stop researching and checking which keywords and phrases work best to help launch your business to the next level!

  • AVG Offers LimeWire Users Improved Protection
Given that file-sharing does indeed involve the sharing of files, it can be a dangerous practice, resulting in the spread of malware. Security experts should be pleased to hear, then, that LimeWire has teamed up with AVG to give its "Pro"-level users an additional layer of protection.AVG Offers LimeWire Users Improved Protection People who don't approve of file-sharing can view this as a sort of community health issue, perhaps similar to the way homeless individuals are given clean needles free of charge. Having less malware out there should benefit everybody in the end, since viruses don't just attack folks who break the law. As for what, exactly, the new deal involves, a formal statement explained, "LimeWire LLC has licensed the AVG Anti-Virus SDK engine and has integrated the anti-virus/ anti-spyware protection into LimeWire Pro, its premium file sharing software. Through this partnership, all files will be scanned before LimeWire Pro will allow them to play or execute on an end user's computer, which prevents infected files from harming machines." Jason Herskowitz, Limewire's vice president of product management, then said, "LimeWire is committed to providing peer-to-peer's best user experience and we are vigilant about user security. We are always looking for ways to improve, and with AVG's seamless integration into LimeWire, we will be providing users with peer-to-peer's most secure technology." The LimeWire-AVG integration should be in effect now, and it doesn't appear that LimeWire will raise the price of its Pro service ($34.95 per year) as a result. With any luck, this development will have a noticeable and immediate effect. LimeWire Pro users are likely to be trading lots more files than the average person, after all, so it may not take long for the benefits to become obvious. The one problem might be if LimeWire Pro users - who are presumably somewhat tech-savvy - already have good security software in place, and it's regular LimeWire users who represent the real security risk.
  • Most Malicious Websites Hosted In U.S.
More than 40 percent of the world's malicious websites are hosted in the United States, according to a new research study from AVG Technologies. Most Malicious Websites Hosted In U.S. The AVG research study is based on the analysis of threats reported during the last 6 months from AVG's 110 million global users of its LinkScanner security product. The research indicates an increase in malware serving websites targeting end users, which usually focus on stealing online baking information, credit card information, personal identities and passwords to social sites. After the United States countries hosting the most malicious websites include Germany and China at just five percent each. Many of these malware-serving websites are legitimate sites compromised by hackers to serve exploits on their behalf. In total, exploitive servers were found in nearly 4,600 locations throughout the U.S. AVG says it is important to note the research makes no statement about who owns or is directing the servers and the criminal networks are located all over the world. "The results of this study shatter the myth that malicious code is primarily hosted in countries where e-crime laws are less developed," said Karel Obluk, Chief Technology Officer, AVG Technologies. "Our research shows that malicious content is much more likely to show up on web servers in the U.S. than one in Asia or Eastern Europe. This makes perfect sense since the USA is a primary target market for the criminals and has rich and mature Internet infrastructure making the threats both highly accessible and cheap to host." "What is most striking is the clear rise in the number of malicious servers in the last six months. Today's hacking techniques are highly evasive so the average user cannot tell if a website is serving malware or not. A web security product is needed."

McAfee says cybercriminals make profits of $300 million worldwide from scamming consumers with scareware. Fake antivirus software pops onto a users' screen and alerts the users their computer may be vulnerable. To disguise the scam, cybercriminals create legitimate looking logos of fake security companies. The pop-up prompts the user to scan the computer for vulnerabilities, which they don't realize is fake, or even buy the "security software" which is actually malware in disguise. Cybercriminals get victims to input their credit card information, giving criminals' access to the user's computer and bank details. "It's an incredibly lucrative business for cybercriminals," said Francois Paget from McAfee Labs, a security research expert. "In fact, one company known as 'Innovative Marketing' made an estimated $180 million through these scams in one year, and more than four million consumers purchased their fake security software thinking it was real."

  • Brett Tabke Talks About PubCon’s Success
Mike McDonald of WebProNews chats with Brett Tabke, CEO of Webmasterworld, about all things PubCon. Tabke said PubCon had "More than exceeded expectations this year and the buzz has just been fantastic. If you have been following us on Twitter, we are the number one ranking search term." This year 30 percent of the sessions were focused on search down from last year. PubCon has grown in other areas and has not reduced the number of sessions. More WebProNews Videos Tabke talked about his 26 Steps thread on Webmasterworld that focuses on how to build a Web site and make it successful.  Tabke said," Anyone can build a one hit wonder but it has to be sustained for 4, 5, 6 years in a row." Tabke creates the PubCon series by asking people what they would want to talk about. From there they try and mix and match speakers. "It turns out everybody talks from their passion. 'It's not just us coming up with this is gonna be hot, that's gonna be hot you go speak on that, you go speak on that.'" Tabke says that "Search has matured. It's part of the whole picture. Google really led the way with Universal Search. They're pretty much an admission its not just about 10 little blue links anymore."
  • Pubcon: Brett Tabke's 26 Steps To 15k a Day
There's no need to introduce Brett Tabke's '26 Steps To 15k a Day'. The page, that was posted almost seven years ago, has had nearly 29 million page views and 15 million unique visitors. It has also been used as a training manual by numerous Fortune 100 companies. In this interactive session, Brett gives an insight at the controversial issues that the post had raised and how the relevance of this webpage posted in 2002 transcends to present times.Moderator: Brett Tabke Speakers: Brett Tabke,CEO,WebmasterWorld.com Brett started out with some stats on the famous '26 Steps' Webpage. Some of his Webpage's achievements: 29 million page views.5 million uniques.200 copies over the web.290 cease and desists have been issued so far.It is the first chapter in Google Hacks. The post is owned by O'reily now.Total income generated is $500 paid by O'reily for Google Hacks Book. The webpage features 10,000 thousands back links. One by one, Brett went over all of the points he wrote in the webpage back in 2002 and discussed over the same with the audience. Back then, Brett had written that it was enough for the initial document to have 100 pages. However, he said, now the number should be around 500. The posts are not really supposed to be about SEO, but more about content, traffic and building a sustainable website. On asking the audience regarding their experience with website having less that 100 pages, most say that they (the experiences) haven't been satisfactory.Regarding the domain name, Brett said that the domain name game is now much more complicated than ever and one can have a TLD (Top Level Domain) of his own. About Site design, Brett stated that the criteria was and still is that the simpler the better. The advent of the iPhone has further confirmed on the notion. It is imperative that now every website is designed keeping the compatibility with mobile devices in mind. One has to adapt all current designs to iPhones.Static sites are seemingly going extinct and there's simply no point in building up sites in HTML. But the most important thing was, is and will continue to be content. Content should have its purpose and not be there just for the sake of existence. Quality content cannot be substituted. Matt Tuens added here that content was the main reason that Search Engines were created. One should ensure a certain degree of stickiness in their websites since people are too busy to go to twenty different sites. You can do the same by simply creating one site that could be the 'go to' site. Brett moved on to the topic of user generated content. The reliance on UCG is a thing of past now. Back in 2002, outbound links were considered a delicate issue since each site was as good as to the ones they were linked to. Even now, Search Engines judge on the same criterion. One could practice cross linking to boost up PageRank on lesser value pages.Shared hosting is unthinkable now for the simple fact that costs have dropped drastically and everyone can have a server of their own. About regular log tracking softwares, Brett stated that his team uses one they have created on their own and displayed the wide variation it shows from the results of other packages. Many CMS (Content Management Systems) are still not spider friendly and this can be a major bottleneck in your SEO objectives. Ensuring that you are in the right directories is still a good way to enhance traffic. With the users becoming more web savvy than ever, gimmicks are still a hit. People tend to negate the importance of options, such as 'e-mail a friend'. These are still as valuable as they were earlier. Targeted content is the key now. Smart content can get your business places. Matt Tuens goes on to elaborate on 'smart content'. You have to understand that everyone is trying to criticize and judge your content. Give information that your demography is looking for instead of irrelevant garbage just to get a good ranking, otherwise you will incur losses on sales, credibility and overall business in spite of a good ranking.Comments
  • Getting More Out Of Marketing Conferences
Now, more than ever, marketing companies and consultants need to get competitive for client dollars and what better way than advancing your knowledge and your network? There are many options for companies and agencies to train digital marketing teams and to keep tenured employees up to date including conferences such as: this week's WebmasterWorld Pubcon, Search Engine Strategies, Search Marketing Expo, numerous regional and niche events and an increasing number of web based offerings including SEMPO Institute and the DMA Search Engine Marketing Certification program. I would be remiss not to mention the upcoming "Social Media Smarts" workshop in NYC covering all aspects of social media marketing including a strategy exercise and tips on building a business case for a social media effort in your organization. Attending conferences is not cheap when you factor the increasing price of travel and hotels as well as pre/post and conference training fees, meals and taxi. Attendees and their companies are paying $2500 - $5000 per person per conference as well as the cost of time away from the office performing billable work. It's easy to see why webinars are on the increase and why those who are fortunate to attend these events need to get the most out of them. The most important thing that conference attendees can do to get the most out of their time at events is to set goals. Managers sending individuals to conferences should be clear about expectations. Company staff should be sure to talk with others within the organization or team that have attended the same or similar events to gain their insight. Depending on the purpose for attending a conference, goals may vary. Here are some common goals based on the various reasons for attending any kind of marketing conference: Knowledge - How many sessions will you attend and how will you capture the information? Notes, photos, video (where allowed) When meeting new people, discuss the sessions with them. Compare notes with other attendees, it's a great way to network and to get other opinions. Before the conference, make a grid or a plan for which specific sessions you'll be attending. Often times, there is not much time between sessions and the difference between getting a good seat and standing room only can be a matter of minutes. Networking - How many qualified prospects, marketing partners, vendors to outsource to and job candidates will you meeting? Each day, tally them up and plan how you will follow up. Content - how will you leverage your conference experience to create new content for your company blog, articles, or process documentation? Set goals for how many you’ll create each day. The content you capture and create can supply a company blog with numerous posts and show clients, staff and prospective clients that you are on top of what's happening in the industry. At TopRank, our staff are required to publish at least 3 blog posts for each day of conference attended. Set goals for how many blog posts, articles or other types of content will be created each day of the conference. It doesn't have to be all text, you can take photos of people, and presentation slides. Take videos where allowed. Knowledge transfer - How will you pass on the information youâ've acquired to the rest of the team? At TopRank Online Marketing, our staff take the highlights and any specific tactics of use and create presentations which they share with the rest of the TopRank team. Knowing you will be required to present the information you are gaining with the team back at the office helps focus on takeaways and practical interpretations of the new information. Socialize - Where there's a conference, there's a party. After hours events are exceptional opportunities for conference attendees to relax, network and share information. Make no mistake, post session networking can be an art form. Make a point to relax and have fun, but be clear about objectives and make a goal of attending a dinner each night of the event if possible. Some dinners are a tradition amongst long time friends, some are sponsored by vendors and some are at hoc events that occur as a result of like minded individuals wanting to continue the day's discussion. As you can see, there are many more opportunities to get value from marketing conference participation than keeping up to date with an industry. Pre conference goal setting and planning, well defined processes as well as follow up and post event knowledge sharing can all multiple the value organizations realize by sending employees to educational events. Not all organizations are positioned to take full advantage of these insights, but through simple analysis, it can become clear pretty quickly how much is being left on the table or to competitors who are sending the same numbers of people and incurring the same costs. Understand the conference offerings, set goals and make the time to pre-plan conference involvement. Leverage content creation, networking, recruiting, competitive intelligence as well as prospecting opportunities and industry conferences can move pretty quickly from an expense with an uncertain effect to an investment with multiples of return.Comments

  • Are Your Online Marketing Efforts Breaking the Law?
Rand Fishkin of SEOmoz has a fascinating (and probably startling to some) post up discussing some new guidelines from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) regarding online marketing. The post stems from SEOmoz's COO Sarah Bird, who is an expert on legal matters pertaining to marketing, and some things she revealed in a recent interview. WebProNews readers will recognize her from these WPN videos on various legal topics. I will not regurgitate Fishkin's post here, but if you're concerned about laws pertaining to disclosure of paid endorsements, it's a must-read. He does offer the following takeaways to sum it up: 1. Most social media marketing is legal without disclosure. 2. Link builders don't have to disclose their relationships. 3. Google & the FTC have very different requirements about paid links. 4.  Linkbait, viral content and microsites don't require disclosure (most of the time). In the online marketing world, does not always cross our minds that there are legal boundaries that are being stepped on or even crossed in some cases. For the protection of your business, it is really an important thing to make sure you are abiding by federal regulations. These are only US guidelines though, so if you live in a different country, you will probably want to do some digging of your own to find out what the regulations are in your own government. Read the FTC's guidelines here.
  • Top Web Brands and Parent Companies
Earlier, we looked at the top domains and pages in terms of linking popularity among different linkers. Collectively, they are referred to as the most important domains and pages on the web. Nielsen Online, however, has looked at the top online companies and brands for the month of March. This data looks at unique audience and time per person spent with each. Take a look at these charts from Nielsen: "The parent level is defined as a consolidation of multiple domains and URLs owned by a single company or division," explains Nielsen. "The brand level is defined as a consolidation of multiple domains and URLs that has a consistent collection of branded content." Nielsen also looked at Internet usage in general for the month of March. There are some interesting statistics here as well: I find it interesting that the average web page is viewed for just under a minute. This might be an interesting stat to advertisers displaying dynamic ads with different offers. This is the kind of information that can be considered when deciding how long to leave each offer displayed before moving on to the next one.
  • The Most Important Domains and Pages on the Web
SEOmoz has a couple of very interesting charts showing the top 500 domains and the top 500 pages being linked to from different places. This paints a pretty good picture of what sites are held in the highest regards by content producers. "The sorting is done in order, not of raw link counts, but of linking root domains - a metric that we've found incredibly valuable both for identifying broad popularity (vs. sites that simply earn lots of links from a few sites with many pages) as well as filtering spam (it's easy to get lots of pages linking to you, and even easy to get lots of subdomains linking to you, but getting a diverse set of root domains is considerably harder)," explains Rand Fishkin of SEOmoz. I'm not going to replicate both lists of 500 here. You can view them at SEOmoz, but I will provide a quick glance at the top ten of each: Top Domains 1. Google.com 2. Yahoo.com 3. Blogspot.com 4. Adobe.com 5. Wikipedia.org 6. YouTube.com 7. W3.org 8. MySpace.com 9. Wordpress.org 10. Microsoft.com Top Pages 1. Woredpress.org 2. Google.com 3. adobe/products/acrobat/r... 4. miibeian.gov.cn/ 5. validator.w3.org/check/referer 6. statcounter.com 7. jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/chec... 8. phpbb.com 9. del.icio.us/post 10. yahoo.com Graph by SEOmoz You can get a look at all of the stats like linking root domain count, external link count, mozRank, mozTrust, PageRank, and change on the charts. Fishkin also provides some interesting highlights from the lists like top gainers and losers here.

  • Critical: Improve Your Mobile Search and Advertising Strategy
A Google exec recently said, "In three years' time, desktops will be irrelevant." That's debatable, but there's no question that mobile use will have grown much more than it already has. Based on comments in a recent keynote, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer doesn't seem to think PC use is going to drop too much, but he did say, "Mobile queries are just going to keep going up and up and up." Do you think desktops will be irrelevant in 3 years? Share your thoughts here. A study released last month found that the number of mobile phone subscribers is on track to increase from 4.6 billion to 5 billion globally by the end of 2010. Another study found that consumers are getting more comfortable with mobile shopping. Mobile Search Google has dominated the search market for a long time, and while this still continues to be the case, it's important to note that search in general changes with mobile. People are searching in different ways than just using their favorite search engines. They're using different apps. They're using their voices. They're scanning barcodes for instant access to product information. The number of ways people are finding information with their phones is only going to keep increasing. On mobile, it's not just about Google, Yahoo, and Bing. That's not to say these three aren't still incredibly important to mobile. In fact, the search share among these top search engines may even become more greatly divided as time goes on. We're seeing different mobile carriers and manufacturers making deals with these companies, which affect the default search options for various devices. As we discussed before, mobile search engine use may be largely dictated by device popularity, which is (in my opinion) one of the biggest things Bing will have going in its favor in terms of market share - Microsoft's new Windows Phone 7 phones will come with Bing hardware keys, meaning the most convenient way to search on these devices will likely be to hit a single button taking the user to Bing. If these devices become popular, it could be huge for Microsoft in search. As far as Google indexing and mobile sites goes, Google's Matt Cutts says, "If you can find a way where your existing site will work well in mobile browsers, we're not worrying about supporting two completely different sites." To learn about this subject in more detail, read the Google Webmaster Central Blog posts: Help Google Index Your Mobile Site, and Running Desktop and Mobile Versions of Your Site. Mobile Search Advertising When it comes to AdWords, Google says to create separate, mobile-focused campaigns so you can optimize keywords, ad text, and landing pages for people using mobile devices. Google shared an interesting case study this week looking at Razorfish's mobile AdWords approach. They shared the following details: - The Razorfish team started by duplicating the existing desktop campaigns and switching the settings to target mobile devices with full internet browsers. - Since their client had a well-known brand name, they focused on branded keyword terms with enough traffic to help them learn quickly about what was working best for their campaigns. - To measure performance, they tracked several conversion metrics including whether a mobile user looked up the brick and mortar store location or downloaded a coupon from the website. Right away, they saw a 7.5% lower cost per conversion on mobile devices, encouraging them to test ways to optimize their mobile campaigns. - Razorfish tested whether variations in the campaign's landing page would affect conversion rates. The team hypothesized that mobile users might be looking to take a specific action, and by starting the user's experience closer to that action, the client would see better results. As it turned out, for this client, they saw much higher conversion rates when the user was directed to a landing page that showed nearby store locations. - Finally, they tested variations in the ad text. Four versions of ad text were tested, including the original copy used in desktop campaigns. Each of the three new versions provided over 9.3% lift in conversion rate over the strongest performing copy in their desktop campaigns. When it comes to Yahoo and Microsoft search advertising, things are about to get more appealing here in general, and presumably, that includes mobile. Microsoft and Yahoo advertisers will have the audiences of both search engines to view ads once Yahoo and Bing get their integration done. Wrapping Up One of the most important things any search marketer can do with regards to a mobile strategy, is to simply keep up with the latest mobile trends and innovations. This space is rapidly evolving, and new apps are released frequently. Pay attention to hot apps, and how your target audience is engaging with them. What devices, operating systems, and browsers are hot? Monitor studies and surveys that delve into demographics. Try to stay ahead of the curve. Do you have a mobile search strategy? What suggestions do you have for improving in this area? Comment.
  • Motorola Goes Bing on Android-Based Devices
Motorola has announced a "global" alliance with Microsoft, which will see Bing used as the default search engine on Motorola Android-based devices. The move begins in China, where obviously there is some turmoil between Google and that country, but again, this is being called a "global" alliance that is "launching" in China. Motorola says that users will get a pre-loaded Bing bookmark on their mobile browser, and an enhanced search widget with Bing integration, though users will be able to customize their devices and select their own search provider. "We believe that consumer choice is one of the most critical components to ensuring a rich and seamless client experience," said Christy Wyatt, corporate vice president of software and services, Motorola Mobile Devices. "Motorola and Microsoft have enjoyed a longstanding collaboration and the addition of Bing services to our Android-based smartphones in China is another important step in empowering our end-users." "Mobile devices continue to be a critical place for customers to access location-based services such as local search and mapping," said Yusuf Mehdi, senior vice president of the Online Services Division at Microsoft. "We are pleased to expand our long-standing relationship with Motorola to bring powerful Bing location-based services to Motorola's innovative new mobile devices, providing consumers with more choice and flexibility in mobile search." This is the second time in about a week Motorola has made news by offering non-Google search options on its Android-based devices. The recently launched Motorola Backflip comes with Yahoo. Bing search and maps will be available on Motorola Android-based devices in Q1 2010 in China. No other expansion of this has been announced, but the phrase "global alliance" certainly leaves room for speculation.
  • More Than Half Of March Madness Fans Will Watch Online
With the 2010 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament starting next week (March 16), it's no surprise the majority (83%) of fans will watch coverage on television, while 44 percent will go online and 10 percent will use a mobile device, according to a new survey by Unicast. Among those planning to follow the tournament online or on a mobile device, a majority will visit ESPN.com (69%). Other branded popular sports sites fans plan to visit include Yahoo Sports (42%), Fox (24%), CBS (29%), and AOL (17%). More than a quarter of fans following the tournament (26%) will visit NCAA.com, while 17 percent will type in the URL for their favorite team. Fans will also gather information on the tournament via search engines (22%), social networks (18%), or newspaper/magazine sites (20%). "On the heels of the extensive online coverage of the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament offers online publishers another premium sporting event that will generate high traffic from consumers looking to follow the tournament outside their living rooms," said Bryan Hjelm, VP of Marketing for Unicast. "Digital innovations like iPhone apps, online bracket tools and streaming video are bringing basketball fever to a growing online audience of fans. "Sites like ESPN.com and Yahoo! Sports will dominate traffic due to their inherent sports fan user base, which make them prime real estate this month for marketers targeting the typical visitor - men aged 18 to 35." The most popular online activities for those following March Madness include:         *58%    Monitor scores         *54%    Watch games live         *53%    Check the status of brackets         *49%    Watch game highlights         *42%    Fill out brackets/participate in a pool
