News World ReportLatest Articles - MyReports™Any Theory Or Phenomena Can Be Simplified to the Absurd – Political Rhetoric 202October 15th, 2009 by News World ReportOur nation does a very good job of helping out the rest of the world. We always have. Most citizens here in the USA feel it is our God given duty to be generous to others since we are so blessed. I have learned (just as you probably have) that many people around the world hate America anyway. Many will take our help and then bite the hand that feeds them. Why? What they don’t realize is many of the states that are providing these unemployment benefits are going to go broke, as their tax revenues has also been curtailed due to economic pressures and the bottom of the business cycle. Then when the same candidate went to Texas he said he was for NAFTA because many of his voters have family in Mexico, and there is quite a bit of trade between the United States and Mexico especially in places like San Antonio, Houston, Brownsville, and El Paso Texas. He stated that NAFTA helps provide jobs, and that trade was good for both countries. After the giant economic collapse in 2008, many political pundits got up and said the problem is with capitalism and greed. That definitely is obviously an over simplification of the reality, and fails to take into consideration that the United States of America has a GDP of trillion because capitalism works just fine. Not only that, but we wouldn’t have nearly the middle class we do if it weren’t for capitalism, and the productivity that comes from people desire and want more (greed if you will). I guess my point is that this selection does not surprise me at all. We will often be on the short end because of ill will towards us. As long as we continue to do what we think is the right thing for other people and other nations around the world we will just have to live with it. We can never make serious decisions based on popularity alone Resource Author Francisco Rodriguez Higueras Is Something Going To Happen To The Olympic Ship Idea?October 13th, 2009 by News World ReportThey are actually thinking about building a ship that will be sued as a hotel for all of the athletes taking part in the games of 2012 here in London. Why on earth does this happen? It is not known why the country is spending so much money on this when we are currently suffering so badly from the depression? Well of course the games in 2012 are going to bring in more people to the country and hopefully give the income a well and truly needed kick up the backside, but why does it matter where all of the athletes sleep? it is unknown why these people get treated in a different way because they are no different to anyone else at all so it is strange,. It is also unknown why the government are building giant training facilities as surely these countries have their own. The plan afterwards is properly to sell it on for use or to use as a precious Olympic museum. I do not know a person on earth who would enjoy visiting a place where tired and smelly athletes had slept in? The strange thing is that the government seem to love pleasing guests to the country over the actual people that live here! The other idea is to build a giant hotel to cater for the athletes but it is not understood why they do not send a letter out to all of the local hotels to ask if they can cater for the people. If the government went ahead and paid the hotels for having these guests then they would have save the money by not having to build a hotel just for them. Of course going on a real luxury cruises is a lot nicer than watching the Olympic one being built so why not think about taking one of those river cruises and just going away for a bit. Five star cruises can be a really nice way to get away from it all, so why not try it. The Way In Which Labour Could Win The Next General Election In The UKOctober 5th, 2009 by News World ReportThe recent European elections proved to be some what of a disaster for Labour and their leader Gordon Brown. Despite this Mr Brown has some how managed to stay on as leader possibly because there was no real alternative candidate from within the party who could do a better job, even though I am sure many would argue with this view point. Despte the assurances of Mr Brown that he will change etc. It is something that we have heard many times in the past. The public at large are also unlikely to forgive him for many of his errors and for this reason Labour currently have no chance of winning the next general election. So what can be done? What could Labour do to give themselves a chance of staying in power? Now I am not a member of parliment. I am just an average man from the UK who enjoys politics. I am a web promotion specialist based in the heart of England who promotes websites to do with stuttering, online guitar lessons for beginners and web promotion. I do however believe that I have the answers to the above questions and the solution to the current Labour woes! Who is the one person, perhaps the only MP who has spoken any real sense in the last eighteen months? Vince Cable would be my answer to this question. Vince is currently the MP for Twickenham and is a Lib Dem party member. So this is what I would do. I would offer Mr Cable the chance of becoming the new leader of all new stronger Labour party. He may need to stand for a type of leadership election or vote however this would or at least should be a foregone conclusion that he would win. I would let him have full control of the Labour party and to therefore choose his own cabinet, this really goes without saying of course. With Mr Cable as the leader I am convinced that Labour would win the next election and that he would be able to successfully steer the country out of the current financial mire that it is in. I suppose it all boils down to whether Vince Cable wants the responsibilty of being Prime Minister and whether he would be willing to switch to the Labour Party. I sure hope that he does complete the switch and that he becomes Prime Minister. The time has come to throw out paying to park at the hospitalOctober 4th, 2009 by News World ReportLabour has recently announced that a stop on car parking fees in hospitals is going to happen. This really should have been done a lot sooner. Paying for parking is the evil icing on the cake for someone who is already upset about going to visit somebody? The NHS is supposed to be free, well it isnt if you have to pay to park there everytime you visit someone or visit as an outpatient. This is the amusing thing, is it really going to save them in the next general election. Of course they didn’t mention that they were the ones who actually introduces the parking fees to begin with. All they seem to be doing is taking it all away to attempt to win back supporters? Grovelling I think is the word best suited for this situation. It really isnt justified to have to pay to park your car to visit someone who is suffering in hospital. Can you really have the added worry of paying for parking if you do not have the money for a parking space. Surely Labour have been doing more damage than good to the NHS over the past few years as many people have been unable to visit their friends and family due to the high costs of parking. So at least now when you pull up in your nice Honda or Toyota you can rest assured that no idiotic parking company will be taking your money today! So with that little bit of money you are saving as an outpatient instead of buying a new cars why not think about getting a custom made beauty as they can not only be more fun to drive but can look a lot better and even sometimes help your love life out although this is sometimes said to be urban legend. The attraction in American madness.October 1st, 2009 by News World ReportIt’s annoying really. Over the last eight years we’ve been pointing and laughing at the USA, and now we look over and see that maybe, just maybe, they’ve sorted their leadership out. Of course, the news today that the ‘what is there to debate about’ public option, or healthcare to you and me, may now have been crushed by Republicans and turncoat Democrats gives us at least one thing to be stand in awe of. To quote one prominent G20 leader, who Obama quoted but wouldn’t identify, ‘We don’t understand it. You’re trying to make sure everybody has health care and they’re putting a Hitler mustache on you. That doesn’t make sense to me.’ It doesn’t make sense to me either, nor to most people with an IQ higher than 90. As ridiculous as American politics gets, it’s consumingly fascinating. The mind boggles at the endless complexities at play, the way in which movers and shakers are clearly working for private interests, or in the pocket of a corporation. The delusion, the lies, the performances, the protesters, the teabaggers. The teabaggers. I mean… honestly? How did we get to a point where the religious right in the US are getting themselves in a tizz over their Presidents plan to provide them with healthcare whilst at the same time naming their movement after a gratuitous sex act. It’s the kind of thing you just couldn’t write, and yet America churns this hilarity out time and time again. I suppose it would be funnier if the whole situation wasn’t so tense with one side having the flames of hatred fanned by egotistical maniacs with foresight other than to further their career. Of course the teabaggers have rebranded themselves as of late, they’re now a Glenn Beck creation by the name of the 9/12 project. Apparently he wants to replicate that feeling people felt the day after 9/11, on the 12th of September 2001, a day when everyone on the planet seriously asked the question, “is this the beginning of ultimate chaos?” I guess that feeling of impending madness and chaos is a feeling Beck is trying to raise from the dead? This is the man that cried himself into a stupor live on television. This is the man who joked about his collegue’s wife having a miscarriage. This is the man who asserted Barack Obama had a “deep seated hatred of white culture”. This is the man who boasted he was once an alcoholic and a compulsive liar, but we’re to trust he doesn’t lie any more. It’s chaos. Totally gripping chaos. At any moment you feel as though the US could descend into riots between people who have a clue, and people who don’t. Here in the UK our politics is about as interesting as TV Wall Brackets. Where’s our 9-12 project? If only for laughs… The Public Option Enjoys Widespread SupportSeptember 30th, 2009 by News World ReportThe US health insurance debate boils down to just 2 factions. Health insurance industry profits and the health of the American people. Those on the health insurance side want to kill the “public option” because they know it will create competition for the health insurance industry which will force them to give adequate care to their customers (which of course will cost them more money so their profit margins will go down.) Polls show that most Americans are actually on the side of the American people (surprising, isn’t it?) Despite all of the lies that have been spread by the right wing media (such Fox News) most Americans understand that having more options is a good thing for them and would help to improve their quality of health insurance whether they stick with their private plan or choose the public plan. According to a new poll, support for the “public option” to be included in health care reform is at 65% among the American populace as a whole. How often is this overwhelming support talked about on the news? Not often enough. They spend most of their time focusing on a few ignorant people screaming at Town Hall meetings instead of focusing on the fact that average informed Americans strongly support real health care reform! It should be no surprise that Democratic voters support the “public option” most strongly with 81% for it with only 12% against. What’s really amazing is that there are actually Democratic Senators who are not coming out in support of something that is obviously the right thing to do and also has a huge amount of support among those who voted them into office. What may be surprising is that even a plurality (although not quite a majority) of Republicans support the “public option.” Despite this, not a single Republican Senator seems willing to part from the party line and actually side with their constituents instead of the corporations for once. 47% of Republicans are for it, while only 42% are against. Independent voters are also in support of the “public option” by over a 2 to 1 margin. 61% of unaffiliated voters are in favor while only 30% are against it. I think it’s clear that this is a test of our democracy. Is it actually functioning at this point? Will the Senate do the will of the American people or will they do the bidding of the bloodthirty insurance industry which doesn’t care that over 40,000 Americans die every year due to lack of health insurance as long as they make huge profits? Resources: (1) Health Blog (2) CBS/NY Times Poll On The Public Option (3) Obama’s Health Care Speech Immigration is the future: get used to itSeptember 27th, 2009 by News World ReportThe issue of immigration is the natural outcome of mankind’s drive and desire to look for new worlds beyond our own. Whether it is the rigours of our native climate, intensely held personal beliefs or just our sense of ‘what if?’, people have been undertaking often perilous migrations for millenia. Of course, whenever and wherever they’ve moved, people have found themselves not merely at the mercy of the elements, but any native populations they encounter. This kind of conflict can probably be traced as far back as the time when the first modern humans barged into the Neanderthals patch at the end of the last ice age. The first ‘modern’ humans didn’t just look different and come with their own culture and beliefs, but basically ‘ethnically cleansed’ Europe of its natives. In terms of integration, this could be characterised as ‘disastrous’, and those who grumble about today’s immigrants should treat that as a salutory lesson in how far we’ve come. It’s easy to laugh at long-forgotten events from history, but most people think that problems really arise when it comes to our instinctive nationalism. We cherish our notion of what our nation is and what values it holds. Little wonder that we treat interlopers from the outside with suspicion. They might look physically different. They eat foods with zany ingredients. Sometimes, they even talk a different language. In times past, immigration could be done by joining the crew of some ship or other, stepping off in another country and setting up shop. As the idea of nation states grew in currency from the 17th century (and right through to today), this freewheeling approach was swamped by one of control. Fuelled by the likes of Malthus, who believed that the world was running out of resources and that this would create chaos, governments began to impose controls on those who entered their country. We’re a long way past Malthus today. We know that resources can be stretched in a way that he could never forsee. We also understand that sometimes people are not motivated purely by finanical reasons to move across countries. Despite these understandings, our governments continue to ramp up controls to enter a country. Perhaps more obviously, the Australian visa system has perhaps started to reach a ‘tipping point’ in terms of complexity. Every new rule opens a new set of loopholes to be exploited by those with the means to do so. As communication gets better, our notions of “borders” suddenly seems a bit quaint. Maybe – just maybe – it would help us all if we cut immigrants a little more slack. HIV Funds Cut In CaliforniaSeptember 21st, 2009 by News World ReportRecent clinical advances have made HIV/AIDS a highly treatable disease. Well-suited medical care can sustain the lives of HIV-infected individuals and prevent unwanted and conceivably pricey intricacies. However, not all HIV-infected individuals have adequate access to medical care. Present economic downturn across the US, budget cuts is not surprising. However, this fact doesn’t diminish the pain of the $85 million budget cuts aimed at AIDS programs across California. Hardest hit in the cuts are HIV education and prevention programs, testing and counseling services, home services and early intervention services. The Governor has accepted the difficult decision to cut AIDS programs. But his insensitive act is not only deadly, but guaranteed to cost California taxpayers millions more in the future. With HIV testing programs sidelined and the state’s ability to stop new infections obstructed, new infections in California will increase—each new infection can mean up to $600,000 dollars in lifetime health care costs. A 100% cut to the Therapeutic Monitoring Program is the definition of penny-wise with the ability to monitor the effectiveness of lifesaving HIV treatment impeded, the state’s already cash-strapped AIDS Drug Assistance Program will only end up spending more for drugs. The Governor’s budget proposal has a direct and compelling negative effect on the access to healthcare for millions of Californians. The governor’s budget proposal would mean 2 million Californians overall would directly lose health coverage, and another 400,000 would lose coverage due to job and economic impacts. Millions more would have scaled down benefits and faced increased barrier in access to health care. A large and consistent body of research has shown that the uninsured people live sicker and die younger, leading to a less productive workforce. The proposed reduction of the state’s general fund contribution to AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) and other AIDS services, including counseling, testing and home-based care, would also result to widespread HIV infections and deaths. Each year in California, an estimated 5,000 to 7,000 people become infected. About one in five are unaware that they are infected. California has one of the highest infection rates in the U.S. with more than 100,000 people living with HIV/AIDS, according to the California Department of Public Health Office of AIDS. The state´s ability to identify people living with AIDS is now badly crippled—creating an gigantic obstacle to the prevention of new infections and linking those who need it to treatment. Not only will the Governor´s apathetic funding cuts shatter those living with HIV/AIDS who rely on the services the state provides to stay alive and healthy, but today’s cuts also pose a serious threat to our shared responsibility to combat the spread of HIV in California. Federal Student Loan TipsSeptember 9th, 2009 by News World ReportThere are not many high school graduates in the enviable position to be able to pay for their college tuition outright. Student loans are usually what new college students get to pay for their education. Today, federal student loans are the most widely used student loans. There are different types of federal loans that exist for students. Subsidized and unsubsidized loans are the two most commonly used. Subsidized loans are for college goers that have an appropriate financial need (decided by the Federal Government). These loans do not acquire interest while the student is in school, part time or full, or in grace or deferment periods. An unsubsidized loan is for students and it is not dependent on financial need. This loan will acquire interest during the loan period. Unlike subsidized, interest is accruing while the student is in school, and during grace and deferment periods. PLUS (Parent Loans) Loans are unsubsidized loans. This type of loan is one that parents get to pay for their children’s college. Graduates and professional students may also get PLUS loans. These federal student loans help to pay for education expenses. Interest is accrued throughout during this time. You can expect an easy application and approval process. Students have to fill out a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Online submission has really streamlined the process. Students must have their application completed and submitted by June 30 of every year. Parents will have to submit their most up to date tax information if they have a dependent student. If the student is not living with their parents, they are required to submit their own tax information. The monthly payments are bearable on these loans and the interest is low. About nine months after you begin college, you can expect the repayment process to begin. You will absolutely have to pay federal student loans back. Extensions can be acquired for a limited time if you are not employed after you get out of college. Borrowers may not want to deal with the consequences of not paying back these loans. Since they are federal student loans, the Federal Government can impose a number of penalties. You can expect the Federal Government to withhold tax refunds, garnish wages, or litigate in court as a penalty for failure to pay back the loan. If you are thinking about filing bankruptcy, you should know that the Federal Government does not allow student loans to be included in a bankruptcy. Some of the best benefits for students will come from federal student loans. The best student loan will vary depending the individual student’s financial need. Survival Living Needed In USA?September 7th, 2009 by News World ReportWho would of thought that survival living would be a reality in America? We in America are spoiled. We have so many decisions at the grocer that it is outside the imagination that food won’t be there. Although there are plenty of right here in the US who retire to bed hungry on a consistent basis, the true food deficits which have sparked riots in other countries have therefore far escaped the USA.It is not wise to think we are immune forever. Wendell Berry mentioned in his book ‘The Unsettling of America’ 31 years back that food was too important to be used as a weapon. People have ignored that idea for three decades because – WE have food on the grocery shelves and it can’t be that bad. Society looked the other way as dairy farmers fought to hang on to herds of a pair hundred cows and maintain their lifestyle. It looked the other way again when small hog farmers were buried under 9 cent hogs, an amount that meant ham alone brought twice what the entire pig cost. Some farmers gave hogs away as it would cost them to sell or keep them. This eliminated many alternatives for our food. While we see now that with oil people who have it can, will, and do dictate the price folk do not see the flashing neon sign that our food supply is in the same scenario. Indeed, clients are for the most part so ignorant of it that they continue to get on cost, generating income for the few of corporate entities that hold the majority of our survival food storage. Archer Daniels Midland – ADM – bills itself as’supermarket to the world’ and had a 67% increase in profits while Cargill – resented by little farmers the world over – had an 86% profit increase. Most patrons haven’t any idea what some ingredients in their products actually are. As one of the largest processors of oil seed, ADM produces soybean powder and meal for human and animal use. Removed from that’s a crude oil used not only for edible oils, plant oils and lecithin, but also for industrial oil, biodiesel, and polymers. Cargill – enjoying record profits – has its hands in baked products, cereals, beverages from alcohol to soft drinks to fruit drinks, candy and chocolate, dairy, health and organic ( think sports drinks, vitamins ), beef and birds, pharmaceuticals, prepared foods ( seasonings, jams/jellies, side and main dish mixes, puddings, sauces and masses more ) and snack foods. You won’t see ‘Cargill’ on grocer shelves brazenly labeled just like you won’t see the other majority players, but it’s’s there and much of what you eat comes from them. Rest guaranteed when it comes to maintaining those record profits that they’ll have that in mind before those too poor to buy their foods. Cotton farmers in India, pushed out by Monsanto cotton, have committed suicide at the chance of losing their livelihood, and farmers in numerous other countries do not even need them as neighbors. If it comes to their finances or yours – theirs will take precedence. Monsanto and Cargill each own 50% of a company that markets genetically engineered foods around the planet. Monsanto eagerly pushes farmers into courtrooms where a tiny farmer has no likelihood of winning, whether they’ve ever planted their seed. One farmer was held accountable for planting their genetic altered seed on land he didn’t even own – which made no difference in the courtroom. Comprehensive power corrupts totally is an acceptable adage to describe what’s happening. With these corporations holding the vast majority of our food supplywhat takes place when they raise prices and demand more profits? We can do without fuel – but we can’t do without food. Unfortunately, the headlights are approaching and American purchasers don’t have any idea to move off the road. Corporate America exists for one thing – Money. They would give a token amount for charities but profit comes before anything. Lower costs drive the ‘reasons’ for GMO products, which the majority don’t need to eat and farmers do not want near their fields. If your checkbook is drained and they’re showing record profits do you think they’ll barter with you as tiny farmers will? Do you think they will feel sorry and say’here’s groceries until you get on your feet? Not going to occur – it cuts into their profit. Farmers have seen it – patrons don’t and are unaware of it.
